What is a Discover Gift Card?

A Discover Gift Card is a prepaid stored value card that can be used for purchases where Discover Network Cards are accepted in the United States, except ATMs, check-cashing agencies and certain locations where an authorization may be attempted for an amount that exceeds the value of the card (e.g., pay-at-the-pump gas stations).

Do Discover Gift Cards expire?

The Available Funds on Discover Gift Cards with a "valid thru" date on or after March, 2011 do not expire. The "valid thru" date on the front of the gift card is not an expiration date, but is intended primarily for fraud protection purposes and also enables you to use the card to make purchases online or over the phone. After the "valid thru" date has passed, the funds remaining on the gift card will be temporarily unavailable until you contact Customer Service for a replacement card with a new "valid thru" date. You may contact Customer Service at any time to obtain a replacement card free of charge. You will need to provide Customer Service with the card number to receive your replacement card. Also, after 12 months of consecutive inactivity on the gift card, Discover Card will begin to assess a $2.50 monthly dormancy fee, subject to applicable law.

Cards with a "valid thru" date prior to March, 2011 are subject to the terms that came with that card, which state that, unless prohibited by law, your card expires on the first to occur of a) the date listed on the front of the card, or b) when the full value of your Available Funds has been exhausted. Any remaining Available Funds on the card will be handled in accordance with applicable laws. For these Cards, you may obtain a new card after it has expired for a $5.00 replacement fee, subject to applicable law, within ninety days of the expiration date.

What does it cost to purchase a Discover Gift Card?

There is a $3.95 packaging fee for each original gift card and a $6.95 fee for the gift card package with matching greeting card.

Are there any additional fees associated with purchasing a Discover Gift Card?

As a purchaser, you will only be charged the processing and packaging fee plus the amount you place on the card. Standard shipping is free! Express shipping can be selected for $9.95 per unique shipping address. As a user, Discover Card will assess a $2.50 maintenance fee per month if the card is not used for 12 consecutive months after activation. These fees will not be deducted if there is any activity on the card within a 12-month timeframe. Subject to applicable law, Discover Card will deduct a $5.00 card replacement fee from your available funds in the event you request a replacement card for an expired, lost or stolen card.

Can I personalize a Discover Gift Card?

Yes, there are several ways to personalize a Discover Gift Card. You have the option to write a personal message on the greeting card with the premium gift package or on the card carrier for the original gift card. You also have the option to emboss the recipient's name and a greeting on the gift card plastic itself.

How many Discover Gift Cards can I purchase at a time?

You may purchase up to 20 cards during a single order, up to a total value of $3,000 (not including processing and packaging fees) within a 7-day period.

Do I receive Cashback Bonus on the purchase of a Discover Gift Card?

Yes, if the purchase is made using a Discover Card. However, purchases made with a Discover Gift Card do NOT qualify for Cashback Bonus since Discover Gift Cards are NOT linked to a Discover Card account.

Can I send a Discover Gift Card anywhere in the world?

Discover Gift Cards can be sent to all but the following states within the United States: Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Vermont. Gift cards cannot be mailed anywhere outside of the United States.

What would cause my purchase of the Discover Gift Card to be declined?

Your purchase may be declined for one of the following reasons: (1) Your billing address does not match the address listed as the billing address for your credit card; or (2) You have exceeded the purchase limit of $3,000 or 20 cards within a 7 day period, or (3) other credit card related reasons for transaction declines.
